Welcome to Divers Lodge Lembeh

Are you looking for a combination of unique dive sites, a fantastically located resort and personal attention? If so, Divers Lodge Lembeh is the ideal resort for your scuba diving holiday.

At the north east tip of Sulawesi, formerly called Celebes, in the middle of the Indonesian archipelago, are found the world′s most beautiful scuba diving sites.
This area is easily accessible. The capital Manado (Menado) has an international airport, which can be reached directly from Singapore. Within only one and a half hours of leaving the airport, you can be on Lembeh Island at Divers Lodge Lembeh, surrounded by the sea, breathtaking nature and great hospitality.

Initially North Sulawesi was primarily known for the Bunaken National Marine Park. In recent years, more and more divers have discovered the enormous diversity of underwater life of the Lembeh Strait. This stretch of sea is unique. Here you can find all sorts of so called critters on the typical black volcanic sand, as well as beautiful coral gardens, walls and several wrecks. It is not unusual to see a number of different seahorses, frogfishes, ghost pipe fishes and countless nudibranchs in just one dive.

Divers Lodge Lembeh sets a new standard in diving. You can discover the underwater life at your own pace, when and where you choose, and with never more than two guests accompanied by one of our excellent guides. These are ideal conditions to observe the underwater creatures and to photograph or film them. We have four boats of differing sizes which were custom designed by us and these offer you all the required conveniences. Divers Lodge Lembeh has the best boats in Lembeh Strait! You can even reserve a boat of your own. This is what we call customized diving!

Although our boats are spacious and comfortable they are still quite fast. Some distances in minutes; Goby a Crab (Tanjung Lampu) 8 minutes, Indah Wreck 10 minutes, Nudi Falls 15 minutes, Hairball (which is actually only 10 kilometers from our Lodge) 25 minutes. These times are including taking off from our beach and mooring on the site.

Usually our guests prefer to take their lunch with them on the boat. You can rinse your camera in a basin with fresh water and the cabin of the boat is always dry and clean inside and thus a safe place to change films and/or batteries. It is also possible to charge your batteries on the boat. The cabin of the boat is high enough for you to stand straight up. The boat has a toilet.

Our house reef offers apart from other things an amazing amount of Mandarin fish. But also here we prefer to dive from a boat. You can easily make up to 4 or 5 dives if you want.

We now offer the solution for your luggage problems. You can hire brand new top quality dive gear and a perfect dive suit.
Complete set starting from only Euro 10, - per day: top model weight integrated Seaquest jacket, Aqualung regulatorset, Bare 5/4 full suit and fins.

Our accommodation is also made to measure our standard. Our six detached bungalows with sufficient distance in between guarantee you much privacy. From your private verandah you have a magnificent view of the beautiful bay, volcanoes and surrounding scenery. The non-smoking restaurant and lounge offers a place to socialize with other divers. We try to avoid MSG (monosodium glutamate) as much as possible in our cooking. We do not prepare or serve reef fish, lobster, pork, dog or bush meat.

Wireless internet access is available in the restaurant and lounge area for free. There’s a Laptop which you can use to access the internet.

We decided not to make a separate camera room. All our guests prefer to take their cameras with them to the room. Thus we put extra tables in the bungalows with rubber covers and plenty of plugs.

If you have enough time, you can combine your holiday on Lembeh with a visit to the Bunaken National Marine Park, the Bangka Islands in the North or the jungle of the Tangkoko National Park.

As you can see from our pricelist, it is still possible to have a dream holiday which is affordable.

Rob and Linda Sinke own and manage Divers Lodge Lembeh, with help from a dedicated team of Indonesian staff. Rob, a PADI master instructor, is from the Netherlands and Linda his wife is Indonesian. Dutch, English, German and of course Indonesian are spoken at the resort.

If you would like more information you are welcome to contact us or open the pages of this website. There is still a lot to discover!

Sampai bertemu lagi (see you soon)!

The Resort

Divers Lodge Lembeh is situated on the south west tip of Lembeh Island. There are no roads on the Island. There are some villages and settlements, but none in the immediate vicinity of the resort. The resort can only be reached by boat from the town of Bitung across the Strait.

The resort is situated on a ridge and is an oasis of tranquility and natural beauty, surrounded by 25 hectares of protected area. In the west is Lembeh Strait and in the south and east you see the beautiful Bay of Walenokoko and the Maluku Sea.
In this environment you may see a wide variety of big butterflies, monitor lizards, many species of birds like the king fisher and sea eagle and, with a bit of luck, after sunset even the tarsier monkey.

Our resort consists of only nine houses. Six of these are guest bungalows. Divers Lodge Lembeh is a small intimate resort which can accommodate a maximum of ten guests. This means we can cater to our guests’ needs and provide excellent attention and service. The bungalows are scattered around the hill and each has its own path and private access. In this way every guest is guaranteed privacy.

Every bungalow has a spacious terrace with chairs and a living/bedroom with a choice of either a twin bed or two single beds, a work table and a sitting area. The ensuite bathroom is equipped with a shower with running hot and cold water, a western toilet and a washbasin.

The bungalows are well ventilated and located to catch the cool sea breezes. If needed, a ceiling fan provides extra cooling. Air-conditioning is not needed.

All guests enjoy the wonderful meals together with Linda and Rob at the long table. The restaurant with an open air lounge has a beautiful view of the bay and the sunset behind the volcano, Mount Klabat. The lounge is also the perfect spot to review your diving pictures or films, play games, read a book or enjoy a chat with fellow guests over a cold drink. A widescreen HDTV with surround home theatre sound system, a wide range of novels, DVD movies, music and marine life identification guides are provided for your use and enjoyment.

Wireless internet access is available in the restaurant and lounge area for free. There’s a Laptop which you can use to access the internet. We also have a computer room equipped with an up-to-date Computer with internet facility and CD/DVD burner. There is an excellent wireless GSM telephone network reception for those who have the facility on their cellular phones and also a GPRS network.

Although smoking is not allowed in the bungalows, the restaurant, the lounge, the computer room and in the sheltered part of the boats, if you are a smoker you needn’t worry! There are lots of places left where you can enjoy a cigarette, for example on your private terrace in front of your bungalow, in the gardens or on the beach.

Divers Lodge Lembeh is the perfect place for someone who likes privacy, while at the same time providing the opportunity to get to know other guests and make new friends.

Accommodation

Our bungalows offer you comfort, privacy and an astonishing view over jungle, mountains and sea. This part of Lembeh Island is barely inhabited. The bungalows are situated on a slope of a small ridge and all have a private access path. From your terrace, you can’t see neighboring bungalows, thus guaranteeing your privacy. Instead, there is a great view of coconut trees across the bay and the Klabat volcano. In short, your private piece of paradise.

Three of our bungalows are made from bricks and plastered walls, with a tiled floor and wooden ceiling. They measure a spacious 4.5 by 5.5 metres. They are furnished with two single beds, which easily can be moved to make a double bed. The two other bungalows are made from wood and are an example of the traditional local woodcraft, with wooden walls, ceiling and floor. They measure 4.0 by 4.0 metres and are furnished with double beds. All bungalows also have chairs, tables and a wardrobe.

All bungalows have an ensuite bathroom equipped with a western toilet, washbasin with a spacious vanity top and a hot and cold water shower. Our hot water facility is generated by solar heating. The bungalows are well ventilated and have fly wire screens, so mosquito nets are not needed.
Because the bungalows are on a ridge surrounded by the sea, cool breezes are common. However, when there are no breezes, a fan provides relief.

There is electricity 24 hours a day, providing you with light while assembling your camera or reading a book in bed. There are sufficient power points for charging batteries or working on your laptop computer. We generate our electricity through a combination of solar panels, batteries with a Mastervolt true sinus power converter and a fuel power generator. The current is 220/230 Volt, 50 cycles. Adaptors or an inverter to 110 volt are available if required Like in the rest of Indonesia weare having the European style 2 round pin plugs here.Everu bungalow has at least 5 sockets.

Valuables can be deposited with our staff for safekeeping in the central safe.

Restaurant

The small open-air restaurant, with great views of the bay and, in the distance, the Moluccan Sea and Mount Klabat, is simple but nice. We do not have an extended or a la carte menu. The tasty meals are always freshly prepared from local produce.

We try to avoid MSG (monosodium glutamate) as much as possible in our cooking. We do not prepare or serve reef fish, lobster, pork, dog or bush meat.

For breakfast you can have homemade bread and toast, fruit, yoghurt, pancakes and nasi goreng.

The local dishes for lunch and dinner can be adjusted to the taste of guests who are not used to spicy food. Apart from rice we usually also serve french fries or pasta for dinner. If you don’t like meat or fish, there are plenty of vegetarian dishes.

Most evenings, the guests have dinner together with Rob and Linda. This is also the time of day to get to know other guests and to discuss the next day’s schedule. After dinner, we review the dives of that day with the dive guides, identify creatures in the guide books, play a game or just sit with a cold beer.

You can use our television set and computer with CD-burner for your films and photos. However, please bring your own cables.

The team

Rob Sinke, a Dutch PADI master instructor and his Indonesian wife Linda, own and manage Divers Lodge Lembeh.

The English speaking dive guide, Andris was among the first to discover diving in the area. Man, Atu, Ungke, Paulus and Ronald belong to the younger generation of dive guides who learned from their experienced colleagues. Together, they have clocked up more than 10.000 dives in Lembeh Strait.

The other members of the staff - Cory, Amang, Feny, Ira, Nini, Ita, Devi, Silva, Veny, Dei, Inggi, Sawal, Ungke, Ot, Johny, Asrobi, Fery, Irvin, Raymond, Ferdy, Steven and the others - come from local villages and were trained at the resort. They will all consider you to be their own personal guest and will welcome you warmly.

Our cats are not only lovely company, but do also help to keep us free of rats, mice and snakes. Luckily are the Tarsius monkeys too fast for them and they seem not to be interested in the birds. Our mascotte and close family member Manis, a black macaque, has recently moved away from us to a shelter centre and is on this moment placed inside a group of her own kind. The centre is working on a program to once release them back in nature.
